Progress
This time I want to share a little of the progress on a 3D model I created for Mileage. It is an entry to a place called “Hopetan”.

Process
I started by making a highres model of the entry which had about 2 million polygones. From there I made a low poly model and all so simplified the doors since I wasn’t exactly happy with the first concept.

As a next step after this I added UVs to the model some are overlapping i.e. the screws surrounding the arc which will not be noticeable at the end and saves up some UV space. From there I baked all basic texture maps from the high poly model on to the lowpoly using Substance Painter, that’s all so what I did most of the texturing with.

Once the textures were done and exported I added a few collision meshes that aren’t rendered. As everything else was done and exported the model and imported it into Unity 5. For the final touch I added a HDR emitting material to the lights and some secondary normalmaps for extra detail on closeups. By using secondary normal maps I can get away with a lower texture resolution of the model in game and save some memory. Here is how it looks ingame at the moment.

That’s all folks, at least for now. Stay tuned for more to come and thanks for accompanying me on this adventure :-)
